Restaurant reviews from Portland, Oregon, USA |
||||||
| I've been writing restaurant reviews for almost 20 years, mostly for Portland's "alternative newsweekly" Willamette Week. The Pacific Northwest provides great seafood, meat, and an amazing variety of fresh produce all year, and Portland's restaurants are some of the best anywhere.
I try to keep up with closures and other changes, but call first. |

relatively recent reviews..."This is where you want to eat. A restaurant that’s friendly and unpretentious, casual but nice enough to make dinner feel a little special. You’d love to walk over, but don’t mind a drive if the streets are familiar and it won’t take forever to find a parking space. You can just show up at the door and know you’ll get a table before too long." Lauro "Basilico represents the yearning of its Roman-born owners Luca and Sharon Viola for the trattorie of their hometown's neighborhoods." "Hamburgers on homemade buns. Lunch specials just under five dollars. Friday night shrimp boil, catfish nuggets, and meat loaf. Hush puppies." Daddy Mojo's "Everybody knows how a restaurant works. A greeter of some sort takes you to your table. A server gives you a menu and you choose from a variety of items. The server comes back and puts the food in front of you." ripe family supper.... |

Cuban and Caribbean at Pambiche. Cheap eats at Higgins, Wildwood, & Castangna (okay, relatively cheap) Bluehour lives up to the hype. A new level of Vietnamese cooking at My-Cahn. Fat Albert's is all about eggs. Southpark, the restaurant, not the cartoon. Best dim sum between SF and Vancouver BC at Fong Chong. It's expensive & pretentious, I liked El Gaucho in spite of itself. If you can't go back home, head for Mother's Bistro & Bar Inner city Italian moves to the 'burbs...Merchant of Venice Retro breakfast at Original Pancake House The John Street Cafe is an outpost of good eating in North Portland Koji Osakaya opens on NE Weidler.
